If you’ve never been snowshoeing before, the Gold Run Nordic Center is the perfect place to start. Snowshoe rentals are available on site and there are about six miles of clearly marked snowshoeing trails, varying in ability levels from beginner to advanced. You can explore these trails on your own or you can take one of their guided tours.

The tours vary in length from 1.5 to 4 hours and they also vary in difficulty, from easy to strenuous. During the tours, you’ll learn about the area’s flora and fauna as well local history. If you’re in town at the right time, you can also opt for one of their New Moon or Full Moon Snowshoe Parties, which give you the chance to experience the forest at night.

Cross-Country Skiing

If you’d prefer to spend your time cross-country skiing, you’ll find over 16 miles of trails at the Gold Run Nordic Center. There are trails for all levels of cross-country skiers and you’re sure to enjoy some wonderful scenery regardless of which trail you choose.

For those of you who are new to cross-country skiing, daily group lessons are available. You can also schedule private instruction if you prefer. Additional clinics are available for adults and children who would like to fine tune their skills. Ski rentals are available.

Fat Bikes

Fat bikes, also known as snow bikes, have grown in popularity in recent years. At the Nordic Center, fat bikes are allowed on all the trails, however some trails have restricted use on certain days. You can rent fat bikes by the hour or, if you’d really like to explore the trail system, opt for a half-day rental and get in as much as you can!

Ice Skating

The outdoor ice rink at the Nordic Center typically opens for the season in January. If you have your own skates, there’s no cost to use the rink. But if you find yourself in Breckenridge without your ice skates, rentals are available on site. Treat yourself to some lovely views as you take some turns around the rink.
